Access Business Lawyers

Access Business Lawyers

Access Business Lawyers is a Wollongong based firm that offers specialist legal services to businesses and business proprietors. These services include advice and representation in areas such as Business and Corporate Law, Succession Planning, Estate Planning and Probate, Business Insolvency and Reconstruction, Property Law , Commercial Dispute Resolution - negotiation, mediation and litigation.

Access Business Lawyers was formed from three successful firms, (Devitt Swan, Cunich Lawyers and Higgins Dyson) with a track record of service of over 20 years of service to clients in Sydney and the Illawarra.

David Swan, Managing Partner of Access Business Lawyers explains: “the merger of three firms was designed to capitalise on the specialist skills of each firm and to create a superior service for business clients. In so doing, the challenge was to integrate the disparate systems and arrive at a set of standards for how the new firm would operate. The partners gave the practice manager, Debbie Cairncross, a brief to identify a software provider with a platform and consulting expertise that would deliver an integrated solution”.

At the time of the merger, the firm was using three separate software platforms, all of which had different databases, software functions and support policies. Harmonising these systems to create a single database and integrated functionality was a significant challenge. Not to mention the organisational issues associated with merging three firms, their staff and systems.

Debbie Cairncross developed a specification and plan for the overall staffing and support systems of the Access Business Lawyers. She then reviewed the various practice management systems being used and those on offer in the market. She chose the Locus Practice Management system because of its wide range of functions, reliability and high level of integration with other productivity tools such as precedents.

In describing the key drivers for the practice, Debbie said, “the ability to rationalise the disparate databases, accuracy, reliability and comprehensive management reporting were key requirements. Ease of use was another important issue”, Debbie Cairncross said.

“We are happy with the results we are achieving. Training has progressed well and the effort of the staff in adjusting to the new firm structure has been outstanding. Also, we have a good working relationship with Locus. They have made a big effort to understand our business and work with us”, she said.

“Our team had a close look at systems and chose a system that would allow us to implement our standards for documentation, service delivery and flexibility of management reporting.”
